On January 15, 2015, President of Technion-Israel Institute of Technology (Technion) Peretz Lavie and winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry Professor Dan Shechtman visited Peking University (PKU). They were received by PKU President Wang Enge and other PKU representatives.

President Wang gave a warm welcome to the theTechnion delegation. He recalled that a PKU delegation had visited theTechnion in May 2014. Wang hoped that Lavie’s visit would enhance the long-term cooperation between the two schools and increase mutual understanding between the people of both countries.
President Lavie pointed out that the Technion has forged numerous partnerships with renowned companies (e.g. HP and Yahoo) and top education institutes all over the world. He stated that cooperation with China was especially important. Lavie pointed out that the Technion has excelled in environmental science and engineering in recent years, and he hoped that this can be a field for both PKU and the Technion to deepen their collaboration in. In addition, Lavie noted that the Technion has established the Technion Guangdong Institute of Technology in Guangdong Province, China, which is a joint academic venture between Israel and China. Lavie also extended an invitation to PKU students to participate in exchange programs conducted by the Technion.

Wang expressed his appreciation towards Lavie’s invitation, and reiterated his desire to expand cooperation with the Technion in fields such as environmental science and medicine. Wang also welcomed students from the Technion to participate in the PKU Summer School.
